Report

Report:Another late night for the young Ponte 2 team (average age 17)

After retaining his British under 13 title at the weekend and managing to get his homework finished 12 year old Sam Todd continued his winning ways by beating Nick Padgett in a tough 5 game match whilst on the other court a streamlined Yusef Forster overcame former England junior international Katie Smith in 3 games. ASsked later about his 'down to the bone' new haircut Yusef replied 'Well i had to get value for money - it cost me a tenner'

Just back from Qatar where she had shown her class when losing narrowly against Laura Massaro Fiona Moverley showed no signs of jet lag as she pushed the athletic Matt Godson into the corners of court 3 to win in a closely fought 3 games. She jets off to Monte Carlo for her next challenge while Matt looks forward to the inter counties at Duffield!

On court 4 Elliot Ridge was drawn into a fast paced hard hitting match with Glyn Saunders and everyone who knows Glyn Saunders also knows that is his strength. He took the first 2 games and then Ridge showed an awareness of what was happening to take the 3rd and although he looked to have found the answers to Saunders' power and athleticism he made a number of unforced errors and the 4th went to Saunders.

Number 1's Patrick Rooney and Harry Falconer know each other well from the junior circuit but hadn't played each other for a long time. Rooney started like a man possessed registering a bagel in the first and winning the second in no time at all. Falconer shook himself and took the third with some very accurate shots and although Rooney looked troubled in the fourth he stayed ahead to take the match 3-1.

A very entertaining evening appreciated by the well attended audience.
